Statutory Liabilities: Land and Buildings

The Department for Culture, Media and Sport has announced plans to exempt community venues from the requirements of the Licensing Act 2003, following its 2011 consultation on deregulation.

On 15 May 2007, the Cabinet Office began a consultation on a Code of Practice for Regulators which, in accordance with the Hampton Review and the Legislative and Regulatory Reform Act 2006, sets out the way in which certain regulators should exercise their regulatory functions. In addition, the Cabinet Office is consulting on a draft Regulatory Enforcement and Sanctions Bill, which implements aspects of the Hampton Review and the Macrory Review on the effectiveness of regulatory sanctions. In particular, the draft Bill provides for the introduction of various alternative civil sanctions which could be used instead of prosecution of criminal offences that fall within the enforcement remit of certain regulators (including the Office of Fair Trading and the Competition Commission).
